THE GOLDEN RULE
Christ said "Do unto others
as you would have done to you."
Few people ever think about it
the way he'd want them to.
For when you mistreat others
another law begins;
it doesn't relate to guilt or shame,
it doesn't relate to sin.
Since we are all God's children
He resides in each of us
If we are cruel to others folks
it only comes back on us.
For if you do not love yourself
and toward others you strike out
you'll always be repaid in kind
of that there is no doubt.
The principles of behavior
are ruled by certain laws
for every act in the universe
the effect will have a cause.
Some may call it Karma,
this paying back what you owe
but Christ put it another way:
"A man will reap what he sows."
So before you speak those unkind words
or pass by someone in need,
before you cheat or lie or steal
remember to take heed
Of the words that Christ imparted
and remember as you do
the person you are "doing unto"
could very well be you!
