EARTHKING BRINGS THE LAND TO ME

Once I only saw the forest
Not the trees
The individual pieces of life
So tiny in their beings
Were lost in the mire
Of desire

Then you touched my life
With the class
Of green grass
Fat wheat
Loving at your feet

I was impressed
At all you became to me
You were a man free
Flying in the
Eastern Oregon Skies
Your spirit touched all
Of my life so deep

We never even had to touch
Or talk
I just know you walked
Somewhere on this Earth
It was enough for me to keep on living

Giving to those less fortunate than me
Is what you made me see
You need me too you do
But I never feel good enough
For one so smart
That once held my heart
In his hands

Old age demands
I grow up tall and proud
As a woman
Do not be loud
Quietly write away your pain
Before the grown-up insane
Impales
Your middle

Once fit as a fiddle
But no more
Life's store
Brings you down
And you don't want your friends around
Nor your foes
The story goes

All grown up woman
Nature coming
And when it comes
I think of you
The kind of work you do
That is important

I think you cleaned up the Y
Above the Eighth Street Bridge
Just for me and my grand daughter
But maybe naught
As I am caught
In thought
Of you

Now there is a boat there
Maybe too old for some
I call others to take it
Get it out of
My fond land
Where I run my dogs
And hold your spirit hand

I try not to mind their drooling
Who are they fooling
With smiles for miles of love
My dogs as children
A gift from God above
Or a state of the devil

I am not sure
Only her
Who loves them
Sleeps with them
Runs them in your land
I walk there in the winter cold
Old

But the Earthking can always bring me back to
What I lack
A cold day away
From the house and all it's hassles
Here I am in a stubble
Field of mud and old wheat stock
Bought and sold for nature
I have always been
I just need your spirit to remind me here my friend

There is more than nursing work dogs
Children grandchildren future past
There is now and it will last
If you live it
And give it to others
One recovers
All the happiness one can find
The sun will shine

It will all be okay
If I just let my mind go today
Send a poem as a greeting
To the King I cannot be meeting
Except in poetry
Where he will live just perfectly

As an Earthking of my soul
In the dirt and fields where I go
To escape from being grown
It is his due
That he will own
My words heard by many
I love him and that is plenty
That he is here
And it is clear

The Earth will spin again someday
Because in my heart he never went away
Just here next door
Beyond my sight
Tucked in nice and tight
All those years ago
When he did not know I loved him so

Bring me O King of Earth
Rebirth today
I ask for God's greatness to shine my way
To give me a spark of hope
I am old and cannot cope
With the adult in me living
Take me back to a child giving

Unafraid and strong
All day sing a song
Nursery rhymes to learn
Lots of time to burn
Play in the sun and the warm rain
New flowers to discover everyday
The world romantic
Not so fanatic

Out unto the land I will go
See the town below
The hills and valleys amuse my mind
Eye level and divine
God's sweet Earth
You protect it
Feed and correct it
For that I thank you
On this day
You come my way
Earthking brings the land to me
Again I am young, strong, and free.
