I've been expanding my poetry knowledge and taken a bit of an interest in Edgar Allan Poe's writings. I like his work because of the layers he uses,
in metaphors, and symbolism. I'm also looking at the 17th century metaphysical poets such as John Donne. My true love is romantic poetry from the heart, but I've set out
to learn more about forms of poetry, as well learn about some of the great writers in history that have inspired generations. I feel by expanding my poetic knowledge, I can
also expand my own poetic horizons....
Poets and Mathematicians
He commands the power of analysis and imagination
Moral wins hands down with the act of propagation
Methods innovative as criminal mind's reach
Poet and Mathematician, the truth must beseech
A battle of wits with exploitation famed
Graceful humility has always remained
Deepest of dark secrets amongst players in row
Now comes his nemesis rehearsing the show
Poe beyond his time a masterful scheme
Dig deep through layers- nothing's as it seems
Identify with characters for part of Poe resides
Peel away the layers where his candor hides
Poets and Mathematicians: "You are mistaken; I know him well; he is both. As poet and mathematician, he would reason well; as mere mathematician, he could not have reasoned at all,
and thus would have been at the mercy of the Prefect." ~ Quote by Edgar Allan Poe from "The Purloined Letter"
