 Contemporary poetry by Dan Donlan

YOU KNOW YOU ARE GROWING OLD WHEN

Your Mom would have been ninety two this year
Your wife five years younger is drawing social security
Your son is approaching Middle age
Your daughter admits to being over 39
Your eldest Granddaughter has graduated from college
Your oldest Grandson is a freshman in college
Next oldest is a Junior in high school
Grandson leads the Junior high in touchdowns
Youngest says, "Grandpa can I have a friend over?"
You always were that friend to play with
Last but not least: Knees no longer ache
Eyesight is improving and you feel nothing
from the knees down going up and down stairs
The Petticoat Dictator allows you to watch football
Some dude in Washington wants to take away your
major source of income and wants you to pay
For all the illegals and their families medical care
