Flight of the Monarch

Photobucket
bound within its tight cocoon a butterfly begins its metamorphose
transcending from the lowly caterpillar into its stunning alter ego
emerging as a beautiful monarch perched with wings to dry
the flight of the monarch butterflies enthralls the world

the beginning of a journey that takes the breath of the world away
flying from canada to spend its winters in a small mexican village
a flight never seen or made before yet with accuracy it goes
the flight of the monarch butterflies enthralls the world

traveling months in unfamiliar dangerous paths never wavering
delicate creatures bravely venturing forth as others before
merging together in texas with millions the journey almost done
the flight of the monarch butterflies enthralls the world

reaching a small village where villagers await their arrival excitedly
believed by some to be spirits of loved ones returning home
one that occurs with precision always knowing where to go
the flight of the monarch butterflies enthralls the world

the time clock within sends them on their way to where they began
returning takes longer they continue to breed and die along the way
the cycle repeating time so precise they finally arrive again in canada
the flight of the monarch butterflies enthralls the world

it is always the monarch from canada that travels the longest
the one who captivates the world making the journey on its own
a journey it has never known before a journey of survival
the flight of the monarch butterflies enthralls the world
