Liz's Poems

In The Crowd

Small
Insignificant

She feels all alone
In the crowd of people

All of her friends and family
Don't notice she is unhappy

She puts on a smile
But really she is miserable

Her family is torn
So is her heart

She fells like she
Is in a tug-a-war match

Either it's between her parents
Or between her mom and her friends

Her friends don't realize
That she feels she has to stay at home

Her dad left
Then her brother

She wants to scream
But how

She wants to talk
But to who

No one understands
She is hurting

She feels like she is suffocating
Over the lingering air or sadness and hurt

She feels like no matter where she goes
The Darkness is closing in

Who will save her?
Who will help her get away from the pain?

She wants ask her dad why
But he can't explain

She feels like a prisoner
In a house of lies and hate

Her mom doesn't know
But she feels like her mom won't listen

Her mom doesn't know
She is hurting on the inside

Friends tell her
To stand up to her mom

But she can't leave her mom alone
She feels like she has to keep the divided family together

It's like a torn blanket
It will unravel until there is nothing left

Her mom hates her friends
But she doesn't want to be alone

Her mom doesn't see
That her friends make her happy

Should she run?
Should she just let the darkness consume her?

The chains are heavy
The locks unbreakable

She feels cold
But no one to comfort her

“Just smile no one would know
That I am unhappy and lonely”

She tries to keep the tears at bay
But the pain is too much

Is there any way to be set free?
Is there any hope left?

The web of lies and hate grows
The spider is hungry.

It creeps closer to the prey
Lingering to finish its dinner

Her family say to believe in God
“He will help you”

How?
Where was he when the family was torn apart?

Where was he when her
Dad hurt the family?

Where was her when her
Brother started drugs?

Where was he when
The darkness appeared?

No where!
So why should she ask him to help?

No one understands why she cuts herself
“That is just a coward afraid to take their life”

She is no coward
She just feels like no one would miss her

The crowd leaves
No one is left

The pain is too great
It's consuming her

The venom of death
Looms in her heart

The beast draws closer
She can feel its breath on her face

Why is she standing there?
Is she not afraid?

Yes, it is time.
The darkness beckons her

Let her last breath leave her
Let her pain end now

The beast bites down
But she feels nothing

She opens her eyes
She is in her room alone

Maybe it is time to speak
Maybe it is time to face the crowd

But how to begin
“I am unhappy…”
