 The Devil!
He begged God in heaven
To give him a break
From all of the sizzling
In the hot burning lake!

He was tired of the flames
And black blowing smoke -
The screaming and tempting -
He was sick of the joke!

He fell on his knees
And started to pray -
He asked God to change
His job and his pay!

But God was quite bored -
He had nothing to do -
And laughed at the Devil
And yelled at him too!

So the Devil rebelled -
And fled from the pain -
Leaving God up above
To go slowly insane!

Joy Weare,
