This is nothing but a bit of fun for me
no rhyme, no reason. Just letting go.
As I set on my veranda
on one of the chase lounges that surround us
I can smell the blooming fuchsia
my maid Mimi brings out brunch,
On the tray is scones and clotted cream
Just like in England, it's good enough for the Queen
As we sip our Mimosa's, my mother is here
She's the biggest drama queen anywhere near
We live on a plantation called Green Oaks
It's really beautiful, with it's rolling lawns
Should have called this place Tara everyone jokes.
There are peacocks with their awful cry
Horses running lose, manes flying in the wind
The gurgling sounds from the koy pond near the porch
Oh how I love spring days like this
Except for mama and all her guest
She holds court on my veranda,
Here comes the rich and famous
who set out here and gossip and pick
on anyone who did not come, all the while
they're eating my scones and getting comfortable
Mama says honey child stay put, you know every one
and they'll be hurt. This part of Georgia
has lots of Spanish moss, I'd like to be floating
on the swamp, laying back in a john boat,
floating past them big old gators,
watching the snakes hang down form tree limbs.
Hearing them wild cats scream like a lady.
I've got my fishing pole made out of cane,
as we glide down the swamp my worm is bumping across the bottom
just waiting for a big old cat fish to swallow him.
I'll take him home and give him to Mimi, she'll hug my neck
and then make me anything. She sure does love cat fish.
And I sure love Mimi cause she'll do anything for little ole me.
