 Tropical Thoughts

The snow is now dirty, piled up like mountains;
It's earlier beauty now distorted by man's hand.
We have to get to here and go to there, life goes on;
As our shovels heap up huge piles along the roads.

Cold winds sweep across the desolate landscape;
Chilling my body and soul clean down to the bone.
Winter's fury remains a while longer as I seek escape;
Wanting to feel the sun in my face, I breathe deep.

Looking out on the white landscape this morning,
My mind drifts along to the sound of steel drums.
I feel the sun baking me as I lay on the pristine sand;
Hearing the peaceful sound of the surf in the bay.

I'm drinking a coconut drink, touched by a dash of rum;
Relaxing in this tropical  paradise with my love by my side.
Gentle is the warm breeze, the smell of an open pit fire;
Grilling tasty morsels to delight my mouth and my soul.

A hammock stretched between two palm trees
Outside the little bungalow on this tropical beach.
Never saying that “there is no place like home”;
Not desiring to return to Kansas with Dorothy.

Dancing in the sun on the beach with my partner;
Footloose and fancy free, electronic gadgets gone.
Oneness with the natural settings embracing me;
In ecstasy as my tropical thoughts linger this morning.
