(from the poetry challenge in Loveland/March-2010)
“Is it Chicken or Tuna?”
Said the master to the seeker.
“Neither Master,
because choice
is an illusion.”
& the master bade
the seeker
to leave.
With heavy head
& heart
he left.
“Is it Chicken or Tuna?”
Said the master to the
Next seeker.
“Chicken master,
because tuna has
mercury poisoning
from the ocean.”
& the master bade
the seeker
to leave.
With heavy head
& heart
she left.
“Is it Chicken or Tuna?”
Said the master to the
Next seeker.
“Tuna master,
because fish
are free to swim
the great oceans.”
& the master bade
the seeker
to leave.
With heavy head
& heart
he too left.
There were
No more seekers
& so he bade
the cleaning
servant to
enter & do
her duty…
Half-heartedly,
He jokingly
asked her.
“Is it Chicken or Tuna?”
She took a bite
Of one,
Chewed thoughtfully,
& Replied,
“I like the Chicken,
but I think
the last seeker
would like the tuna.
Shall I give to him?
He has a long way
To go home.”
The master laughed
& said,
“Give it to him then
& tell him
he is home…
give him your room,
for I have found
the seeker.”
