 reflections

the greatest show (the world will never know)

I've flown to the moon
nine times
and back again
I've seen things
much too soon
nine lives
of a fool
and I've danced
as they jeered
when I put on my show
of the astronaut
who flew so high
and the world will never know

I've flown to the moon
nine times
and back again
I've had dreams that
once came true
nine lives
of a fool
and I've danced
as I put on my show
and sang this sailor's song
of the astronaut
who flew so high
but stayed for far too long

I've flown to the moon
nine times
or maybe ten
I've been out there
where the air is cool
nine lives
of a fool
and I've told my story
and by the last line
which revealed all the true worth
of the astronaut
who flew so high
and the greatest show on Earth
