 Future  Tense

Star-crossed, storm-tossed, hearts lost, enduring winter frost
Of latter years, many tears, pointless fears as our end nears
We played in life's parade, plans made but old age stayed
Fantasies jade, slowly fade, uphill grade can't be delayed....

Starry eyed, we each sighed, long ride that we took in stride
Sticks and stones, breaking of bones, moans and groans
Standing tall, too proud to fall, all in all we answered the call
Friends died, fell with pride, satisfied they were on God's side....

Halcyon days, sun's warm rays, attending plays, holidays....
Marking time, Cokes a dime, pleasant clime, hardly any crime
All changes, crime ranges, cocaine deranges, best friend estranges
We are now grown, on our own, old times gone, etched in stone....

Things transcend in a delicate blend right up to the bitter end
If we knew the day and way that tribulations would hold sway
Would we have fought, using morals taught, lessons bought
I doubt it but won't shout it...and now, I'll say no more about it....
