I once met a guy whose eyes spoke volumes as he began to speak
"Quite frankly," He said, "I will say that in God I don't believe!"
He looked directly at my face and rattled on, "I don't go to church
I know that prayers are not answered! I refuse to remain so naive!"

That was the first time I'd met a person who denied God's existence
The horror of what he shared caused great consternation in my soul
What had caused this old man to become negative against his Creator
He told his story with tears in his eyes which he couldn't control

"I was a boy of seven when my Dad asked me to babysit my brother
Our poor family lived in a small village in Europe many years ago
My parents left us inside the house on that day during a blizard
My heart sank as I watched my parents leave in the falling snow"

"Both of our parents worked hard and we were often left by ourselves
On that said day," he slowly recalled, "suddenly all hell broke loose
It was difficult for me to calm my brother during the snow storm
Then my brother became fussy and he asked me for a glass of juice"

"So off I went to the kitchen and he remained alone for a moment
On my return I couldn't find him 'though I searched high and low
At this part of his story, the guy wept openly and I saw his grief
"My brother crept out the back door and he got lost in the snow"

"I knew my Father would kill me and so I began to pray desperately
His anger would not be sated until he had beaten the hell out of me
So I searched outside until I found my brother more dead than alive
I prayed that Father would not hit me and asked God's help urgently"

"That night my brother came down with a fever from the bitter cold
Father asked my brother what happened that day and he told our Dad
I was watching TV when I felt Dad's fist hit the side of my head
I couldn't run away from that monster of a man who was raving mad"

"On many occasions my Dad punched me and Mom didn't do anything
She stood by helplessly because she didn't know just what to do
During the beating I swore that I would never trust God again
My anger took over as my small body was beaten black and blue"

"Why did God turn his back on a child's darkest hours?" he asked
No-one was there to hear my prayers, it proves that God doesn't exist
From that day, I haven't prayed again, he whispered, drying his tears
I don't believe God would allow such things to happen... I insist!"
