Prevent Your Next Breakdown

Too much society
and I shut down.
Feigned politeness oppresses.
The spring of my compass breaks.
No mistake,
I believe in kindness.
Once offered it seems
offered rarely again.
The coupon on humanity, expired.
You're simply
out of luck.
Sorry, no rain checks,
but plenty of rainy days.
Try talking to me on the bus.
Maybe I've checked out,
still, there my butt sits
attached to the rest of me.
Once, a man flopped down next to me,
crimping my left thigh.
He smiled in toothy anticipation.
I wasn't part of the furniture.
I removed myself from the scene.
No need to be mean.
Sane silence was far more precious.
More than could ever be imagined.
