Ivan the Terrible- Hurricane Ivan

Those who are here will retain
The memories of this devastating hurricane
Slowly it crept over a very exposed land
Reeking havoc and ominous annihilation

Working here demands either a permit or contract
Vehemently he (IVAN) did not stand for any of that
He forgo all of the immigrations bureaucracy
As he invoked a lesson in humility

He taunted and teased so agonizingly
As he made a purposeful approach across the sea
Not holding any predictable course
As those winds reached category five force

IVAN THE TERRIBLE struck with high velocity winds
Venting his wrath as he triumphantly intends
As he moved across the haplessly flat island to pound
His drums beating with a death rattling sound

I could remember areas so picturesquely displayed
Instantaneously into a waterway was converted
Many who saw this involuntarily wept
As the seas from opposing directions connect

Roofs with shingles were all tattered
Some with galvanized severely battered
Others had completely disappeared
As though lifted by many talons and elsewhere deposited

Sadly there was little refuge
From such a deluge
As the friends you meet and great
As some of their houses genuflected at Ivan's feet

Those people who thought they had power
Under Ivan they capitulated and cower
He was disdainful and disparaging
And he really did some reality leveling

We may say we weren't lucky
But that's life quite frankly
As for about half a year we can expect
A hurricane at our doorstep

One should not be alarmed
Ivan had a very long and well armed
Some 300 miles across
Clearly he told you who was boss

As we sadly pick up the pieces
We must look at life from a new perspective
Cut out the selfishness, boondoggling and small minded insularity
Dig into that inner being and remember the frailty of humanity

Remember that material treasures
Are just for personal pleasures
As when all is said and done
What you spend a lifetime to accumulate
Ivan in a flash  duly decimate.
