Poetry For Everyday People
Don't Waste Your Time Counting Days
I started out
just getting it
off my chest,
marinated words
someplace deep
inside myself,
trying to work out
what I couldn't
quiet get?
why people work hard
to make each other
not fit?
a head
two arms
two legs
and a lot of bones
a heart
a brain
a life
and one chance
to get old
find love I say
don't waste your time
counting days
when I learned
to count wasn't
to keep score,
first red rose
I gave was
to a record store,
thought alone
was a friend
for the longest time,
me and alone
together stuck
in my mind,
a head
two arms
two legs
and a lot of bones
a heart
a brain
a life
and one chance
to get old
find love I say
don't waste your time
counting days
find love I say
don't waste your time
counting days
just getting it
off my chest,
marinated words
someplace deep
inside myself,
trying to work out
what I couldn't
quiet get?
why people work hard
to make each other
not fit?
a head
two arms
two legs
and a lot of bones
a heart
a brain
a life
and one chance
to get old
find love I say
don't waste your time
counting days
when I learned
to count wasn't
to keep score,
first red rose
I gave was
to a record store,
thought alone
was a friend
for the longest time,
me and alone
together stuck
in my mind,
a head
two arms
two legs
and a lot of bones
a heart
a brain
a life
and one chance
to get old
find love I say
don't waste your time
counting days
find love I say
don't waste your time
counting days
