 Hunger Pains A Soul Today
Food cannot subside this hunger
That reels someone who has gone under
For the last time where pain becomes
A mercy killing freeing no one

The emptiness that drives the nails
Hammered with thoughts leaving a trail
Of dreams once had but not to be
The staple of ones destiny

Tears become a river flow
Dragging your soul in undertow
To fight no more, holding your breath
Till breath no more becomes now death

Yet still hungers the soul that clings
To life it knew of better things
A life one paid with ransom theirs
A man who bled on cross yours bared

Your thoughts now run a marathon
To hope dimming and all but gone
Yet light is seen someone turned on

Darkness has a way to slay a soul
It comes when weak comes to take hold
The soul now plagued by hunger pains
If death one chose what would one gain

Food verbal becomes what now is sought
A second wind to you has brought
Reason to fight to slug it out
Your cries to live become now shouts

Concede you will when you are called
But not today though hard are falls
That rock the world you still embrace
This food for thought revealed by grace
