For millions of years I have been standing
Here with my deep rooted feet in the Earth!
Many rivers, countless water falls and trees
Have taken birth from my breast-
I long to flow along with the rivers and I yearn
To swing my head with branches of trees when
The wind touches them with love and laughter.
I wish to fly like a great falcon
To enjoy the dreams of freedom
In the blue splendor of Heaven.
~*~
Alas, I am a born slave
Chained to the Earth, its my fate!
Where are my feet? How can I see them?
I have been burning to attain my freedom.
I can not even move my feet or my limbs!
Even my fingers of my feet do not cooperate!
Some times in my agony I feel I should die
By squeezing my throat with my own hands
But where are my hands?
Were they chopped off by the heavens?
Why should I be burnt and hammered
By the merciless Sun in every summer?
Why should I be buried under the chilling
Snow in every winter and why should I bear
The lashes of thunder in heavy down pour?
How can I escape this life of slavery?
Where can I find my freedom?-
When can I rise like a fiery phoenix bird?
I cried aloud with all my caves to skies
And with my crevices I made a prayer
To the mother Earth to show some pity!
~*~
At last I heard a voice from the space
Soothing to my heart with words of solace:
"O ancient mountain, how crazy you are!
You are not a bird to fly towards the heaven
You are not a river to flow towards the ocean
You are a symbol of loftiness, king of nature!
O great mountain, with your high peaks of ideals
Where can you fly from the mother Earth!
When you enjoy such a great position in nature
Why do you grieve and long to move?
Your strength and firmness is immense.
All intellectuals should learn your loftiness,
Mental strength, and firmness only from you.
Without your existence there will be no rivers,
No more mineral wealth and no more civilizations!
Without your great strength even the Earth
Can not hold these oceans in Her lap.
Are you not the most beloved of the Earth?"
Hearing these words my heart gained quietude!
Now, I am able to stretch my feet with pride
Into the warmness of mother Earth!
