ODE TO A LITTLE LAMP

AT FIRST IT WAS JUST A PRESENT,
FROM SOMEONE WHO LOVED YOU TRUE
THE DAY YOU WERE BORN, WE TURNED IT ON
TO SHINE ON OUR BABY IN BLUE.

THEN AS YOU GOT OLDER, WE MOVED IT TO YOUR BED
TO GUARD YOU AS YOU SLEPT,
NO BOOGIE MONSTERS UNDER YOUR BED
OR THINGS  ON THE FLOOR THAT CREPT

THEN ONE NIGHT,IT SAT BY THE CLOSET,
SO THE SCARIES COULDN'T GET OUT.
NOT EVERYONE HAS A LAMP LIKE THAT
IT'S REALLY BRAVE YOU FOUND OUT.

IT'S ALWAYS READY TO LIGHT UP THE ROOM
AND KEEP YOU SOUNDLY ASLEEP
IT REALLY IS A LAMP TO LOVE,
ONE YOU'LL ALWAYS WANT TO KEEP

IF CAMPING WAS A JOY FOR YOU,
A GROWING UP THING TO DO
JUST CHANGE THE BATTERIES NOW AND THEN
AND TAKE IT ALONG WITH YOU

NOTHING IN THE CAMPGROUND
COULD HARM YOU IN THE NIGHT
THE BRAVE LITTLE LAMP, DID EXTRA DUTY
AND SHONE ITS LIGHT SO BRIGHT

AS THE YEARS WENT BY AND YOU GREW UP
THE LITTLE LAMP GREW WEARY
NOBODY SEEMED TO NEED IT NOW
TO MAKE THEM SAFE AND CHEERY

SO UP ON THE SHELF IT SAT, ALL DAY
'TIL A LITTLE DOG WAS ADOPTED
HE NEEDED COMFORT THROUGH THE NIGHT
AND THE GLOW FROM THE LAMP WAS OPTED

NOW, IT'S FUNNY HOW A LITTLE LAMP
COULD BE SO GOOD TO THE LIVING
WHEN AFTER ALL, ITS COZY GLOW
WAS ALL IT HAD TO BE GIVING
