The Song by the Firelight

He was hiding from a rival gang;   from his hideout he saw the firelight
Even in his moment of despair that sight filled him with a great delight
There were some beautiful women dancing inside this fiery  ring
Whilst other just as captivating began  to sing.

Their singing was in such a  synchronous harmony
And amid all that a voice there brought a jolt to his memory
He quickly identified it to be  that of no other than his mother
That was the one she  always sang, but she had died and he was raised by his father

In this he felt some joy intersperse with some fear
Was all the splendor  done by those  ghostly  figures over there?
On taking a closer look at the sight
He noticed that they were all dressed in robes of white.

The singing stopped for a moment then another song started
This one was his favorite and with joy his heart was flooded
Then his mother looked up and smile, but he also noticed she was sad
But how could she know he had bowed to peer pressure and had turned bad?

He kept wondering could this be some form of omen?
Could she know of some imminent danger that was pending?
He knew there and then that he had to make a decision
Get out of the current situation, and  move in another direction.

As soon as those thoughts entered his mind
The intensity of the firelight began to decline
She raised her head this time smiled happily, and whispered good-bye  my son
Your decision made me so proud , now I can rest peacefully my job is done.
