DADDY'S' HOMEWhen first time fed Hummingbirds It was really fun Put out a couple feeders Waited for setting sun Back then would come spring to fall Not a chore had a ball Someone said feed those little tykes They buzz around your kids on bikes They count on you to survive Show they put on jump and dive My love for them grew and grew In my window colorful greens and blue Thought how cute the affection shows My love for them grows and grows One day flew up and touched my nose Then found out feeder was empty Not a fool were showing me quite simply Then next year they came all winter long Brought friends and neighbors along Feeding day and night a family strong Sky was filling with hummingbirds Buzzing in my ear one day was heard Four at a time would sit on the feeders From my sugar bowl they were repeaters Now I am changing feeders once a week This ain't job for the very meek I've added more feeders they keep coming They are holding signs some are bumming Now my pantry is running out of feed Still they are coming in their need More well be coming ain't even summer Start raising bees ain't that a bummer Cats and dogs eating out of house and home Got some hummingbirds I'll put out on loan One third sugar three parts water Two minutes in a microwave you gotter Friends for life wife' moving out All she sees is hummingbirds flying about Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
