Veterans
I received a mailing today from the VFW;
My thoughts return to my days over seas.
Remembering the reasons, the internal conflicts,
The bottom line surrounding Vietnam.
Several guys at work are new veterans of
Iraqi Freedom; I see me, another generation.
Kids taught to be soldiers, doing their duty
To protect freedom back home in the States.
Fighting on foreign soil, sometimes forgotten;
Wondering when or if then would see home again.
Veterans of Foreign Wars; patriots, heroes;
Remember them with your thoughts,
Your hearts, and your souls.
From Flanders Field to Saigon to Baghdad;
Soldiers of all ages march in our minds.
Remember them, never forget the sacrifice
Of the many who gave their young lives for you.
