FATEFUL NIGHT
You stopped by late that night
I didn't ask as I should have 'are you alright'?
I wish that I had asked you to stay.
Who knows, we may have chatted the night away.
Why didn't I ask on that fateful night if you were alright?
Must have been too caught up in myself.
Now as I stare down the years and remember your haunted look
I always ask myself why I didn't ask you to stay and hold you tight.
Say "stay you'll be alright", instead I let you walk away.
I recall you paused. Pity that I never called out.
My heart is weary as, thinking back, all it needed was that one query.
Who knows, it might have saved your life.
Are you alright?
