Vanity
Putting my best foot forward;
Yet trying to look nonchalant.
Wanting you to see the good;
While hiding all of my many flaws.
Sifting through the many words,
Speaking in a way that's just right.
Picture upon smiling picture;
So happy, so wise, so very free.
Reality is stuffed into a trunk;
Locked away in my dusty attic.
Left is this polished hollow shell;
It is but a shadow of my vanity.
