Crowded Out

***********

The raccoons have moved into the old cemetery.
They're sucking the marrow out of Grandma's old bones.
Across the street, rising, the new ugly condo.
Casting its shiny long shadow.
Everywhere everywhere nature is crowded out.
And we are crowded in.
Oh what a sin.
We are crowded in.

Dour skies are carpeted with a cacophony of crows.
They're outnumbering red robins five to one.
Omens of sprawl, they're dining off decay.
Eating fatty McDonald's off the road.
Everywhere everywhere nature is crowded out.
And we are crowded in.
Oh what a sin.
We are crowded in.

A  confused young coyote caught the westbound Max train.
He rode two stops closer into town.
The curious camera crew cleared him out.
Poor shy fellow was lost without a doubt.
Everywhere everywhere nature is crowded out.
And we are crowded in.
Oh what a sin.
We are crowded in.

A dazed squirrel attempted to cross Powell Boulevard.
For a moment he dodged oncoming traffic from both sides,
Til a speeding blue Honda mowed him down.
No, he didn't have a chance.
Everywhere everywhere nature is crowded out.
And we are crowded in.
Oh what a sin.
We are crowded in.

Struggling brown pelican wallowing in the choking goo.
wetlands smothered in black oil spill spew
Will the world ever get a clue?
Everywhere everywhere nature is crowded out.
And we will be crowded in.
Oh what a sin.
How we will be crowded in.

Melissa A. Howells/Meloo Straight from her Tilt-a-World

There has been a "growing" trend, all puns intended, of gentrifying
my neighborhood. Home owners, long-time businesses are being
squeezed out by greedy developers. Ugly tin-like constructions are
springing up everywhere. This is a popular area. They want to maximize
profits and make the neighborhood less live-able, breathable. As if
we were tinned sardines and not people. This, too, is happening to the
animals who are loosing old habitat...as everywhere we are crowded out.
