Upon the heart of those who serve
Upon the souls no longer heard
Bugles will sound tribute this day
Where sacrifice for you was paid
From sea to shining sea they sailed
From Ti's of thee countries they hailed
All to keep what most don't know
The price for peace and freedoms glow
It came in form of infantry
Of Airborne drops from sky for thee
From beach landings and strafing runs
With young blood spilled of many sons
In trenches slept and wept for you
Where prayers prayed to survive through
Another night of fire fights
Of many shocked and sleepless night
Bravery where bullets flew
Wounded soldier thousands not few
Would lose their life on sands of beach
Mowed down before they even reached
By air iron eagles would come
Roaring another sortie done
Refuel and take to air again
Returning not meeting life's end
Mia's would too be lost
Another stat for freedom fought
For you and me for GOD and country
The price, what cost for sacred bounty
These scars of war would travel far
Away from families where foreign stars
Would be the ones they wished upon
To return home, from homes long gone
PO W's would too know grief
Scarred for life by wars that keep
The human soul hidden from view
Today prayed for in home church pews
This day, their time will stay with them
Though some survived war does not end
In mind, in eyes, in bodies battered
These scars of war that truly matter
Close your eyes and pray for them
Spend a moment and ears yours lend
For without those who served us well
Where would we be as war is hell
