 once upon a time

You deserved a better life wee Liz
The one you lived, you lived it well.
Unfortunately those who surrounded you
Were useless to the point of criminality.

I include myself in that truth.
You loved and cherished all your children.
You cared and shared with everyone you met
Those who should have looked after you did not.
They abandoned you!

You fought the fight of life to survive
For your children to grow up, and live well.
You spent lonely nights wondering where the money
to pay bills was coming from.

The hero who married you tarried in the pub
Being told by his pals that he was wonderful
whilst you sat at home, worrying about every penny.
You fought to survive until the stress of it laid you low.
You died Liz, you really and truly deserved a better life.
