If All I Had
If all I had was just a year
To live before we died my dear
It would be filled with all of you
You who gave and brought me through
The lonely nights that shadowed me
My thirst to love no more would be
For light became the very thing
You brought, I bathed become something
We'd learn absorbing tenderness
Bringing to life what bitterness
Kept at bay so we'd not feel
What could have been our last appeal
You see you bring your A game to
An F desperate that you can school
For everything seems right as rain
When you're around no sustained pain
Class plays out you're overture
The pill sought out my need my cure
That ails a soul that runs empty
Of life in you to feed off plenty
Magic also comes to mind when we
Sit down and talk where all of me
Disappears with you in hand
Where travels ours make one last stand
You see if all I had were you I'd need
Nothing but purpose to sow my seed
In you to know I once was here
Where child of mine you'd love my dear
If all I had it would be peace
With my last breath upon you feast
Knowing quite well it was worthwhile
To have and hold not had awhile
If All I Had
