 Always Upward

The stairway to the stars begins at rainbow's end,
Starting on the upside, not the one that you descend,
Looking for the pot of gold that never can be found.
So, you might as well turn yourself around....

The stairway to the stars begins with your first step,
Or rather the first you take without anyone's help.
If you stand on your tiptoes, you can reach it to begin.
For me that was so long ago I can't remember when....

The stairway to the stars doesn't go straight and narrow,
And it is not an arc like the flight of flying arrow.
It is a twisting turning pathway more like a coiled spring.
It passes slowly past everywhere and everything....

The stairway to the stars doesn't start out very steep.
It gives you several chances to look before you leap.
The higher you go the more inclined the pathway curves,
As much to test inner strength as to test your nerves....

The stairway to the stars will not wait for you forever.
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may is more than just clever,
For the hands of Father Time are indeed swiftly flying.
The stairway to the stars is a stairway well worth trying.....
