POEM FOR THE HOMELESS
This piece is dedicated to all those who are homeless, suffering, and without hope.
The next time you see someone on the street and you pass by with a glance of disdain,
remember, there but for the Grace of God...goes you.
God, I am but a sinner
who's known You from afar.
Walking life as if asleep,
been wondering where You are.
I've felt alone a while now,
been suffering, in pain.
Can't pay my bills or feed myself;
I turn to You, in vain.
Been to church to visit You -
the preacher said to pray,
but when I knelt down in the pew
he sent me on my way.
I know my clothes are ragged Lord,
been a week since I could bathe
but I can't help the way I look -
the shelter's been closed for days!
There's lots of folks like me dear Lord;
some much worse off than me.
Your Word says "do acts of kindness" Lord,
so why can't others see
how life can deal a circumstance
to them as well, on any given day?
It doesn't matter who they are
or how hard they may pray.
Guess I shouldn't complain to You
at least I still have my life.
But it doesn't just affect me Lord -
there's my children, there's my wife.
We read our old Bible daily Lord;
we're still a family.
But it gets harder every night
to believe you hear our pleas.
Forgive me for this lapse of faith.
You're our strength God, you're our hope.
Please...throw us out a lifeline Lord.
Pull us up this slippery slope...
