How Dare?

She is a woman
200 plus pounds of her
Neatly packaged
A fine Corona cigar
Fingers and toes blood red
Polished conversation
Precise like the tarragon
Egg salad 12 grain sandwiches
She makes with the crusts cut off
And the stares
The glares that come her way
How dare a
Yes, how dare a big woman look
That way
Her way
My way
Burmese sapphires for eyes
That would burn a hole through the dark
Hair a coiled raven's nest
Voice clearer than a lark
Curls hanging near her heavy chest
Even Elizabeth would have sighed
And remembered the days when the roof
Her roof
Was hot
And Cleopatra entertained on the barge.

Meloo/Melissa A. Howells Copyright April 2010

Interesting how the meaning of this one just slips right on by some.
