 Look Behind
Seems like nothing much ever happens on this street.

But there's something hiding behind the smiles of the people you meet.

See the tired girl with the snag in her colored pantyhose.

She's worn the same dress for weeks, its all she knows.

Sure, she changes her makeup, freshens up every day.

Feels it keeps her safe so others won't look her way.

The thin man circulates a marijuana legalization petition.

Gathering over 100 signatures a day, its his one ambition.

He's been camping in the woods in this country's largest city park.

His dog died last year, so he's got no friendship after dark.

I do love these people, though I would never say.

Seems people who need people the most rarely find their way.

You say nothing earth-shattering ever happens on this street.

I say look behind the smiles of the people you meet.
