Old Blue

The smell of fresh baked cornbread
Brings back a memory or two
of my Dad and a old coon dog
 that he called blue.

He'd say, "Blues loud but he's a good old boy"
as he fed cornbread to the dog
that brought him so much joy.

Blue was loud and sure could howl
 when he smelled Daddy's cornbread
you could hear him for a mile.

He always said "this old dogs
the best friend I ever had
and there's no place Id rather be,
 because old blues worth more
than a farm in Arkansas to me"

 Memories of cornbread
 always make me smile
 What I would give
 to see my Dad
and old blue now.

Dedicated to my Dad
