Stone's Throw Away: "The Lilies that Bear Her Name"
Author's Note: These lilies are the offspring of an original plant I gave my mother (on Mother's Day) when I was 16 yrs. old. Whenever we moved, we took some with us, and they are now growing and spreading in several states. They hold the dna of the original flower. I've given the bulbs as gifts- (for example, I had a friend whose mother passed away, and now these "sons and daughters" of the original plant are growing beside her mother's headstone). My family has named them: "Kelly Flowers". They multiply into the hundreds every year, and hold a very special story.
Upon the edge of a winding road
‘Tis a place called ‘stones throw' away
Such gathering fell by the swinging of hands
Skipping stones simply landed that way
In time the elements shed their glory
Days crossed over ‘tis again June
And the lilies that bear her name
Graced their beauty in blissful bloom
Their summery presence blossomed
Favored once upon cherished view
Assorted pebbles held these bouquets
And her flowery namesake grew
Set upon the edge of a winding road
‘Tis a place called ‘stones throw' away
Where perennial petals reach for the sky
And touch winds that whisper her name
