 When Comity Was King

It was my kind of day when I stopped to pick up Skeezix for a ride
I could smell the sunshine and all the flowers seemed tie-dyed
It was a shame we were headed to the school for yet another day
There were great vibes all around but school was getting in the way...

We passed sad-eyed Sally waiting in the alley for her wannabe beau
He didn't want her but there was no way she was gonna let him go
Just don't go to your knees, Sally, jeez, you are a bit better than that
Not only is he not much to see but he most certainly ain't where it's at...

We drifted into the parking lot past the heroes of the football field
They had the muscles a girl would want but kept their brains concealed
Skeezix told me one time that none of those guys were worth her bother
There weren't none she would want to take home to meet her father...

Some were alright guys, just weren't in the circles in which we ran
But of course one of them at Homecoming was always voted best man
Just like a cheerleader was always picked as the Homecoming queen
It was okay with me and Skeezix, we never much cared for that scene...

Skeezix was real!  She would help me change the oil in my run-down car
Try that with one of the la-de-da prima donnas, see if you get very far
We ran into "crepe" Myrtle in the parking lot, wow, she was way out there
I have to watch out I don't slow down, Skeezix don't like me to stare...

Poor Myrtle, as smart as they come, kept her head in the clouds too much
But she is a trooper, one thing for sure, she don't ask for no crutch
Skeezix says we gotta be nice to her 'cause not too many people will
I like the idea of being nice, it's so easy to do, it ain't no big deal...

Straight A's and she never knows the time of day, nor does she care
But enough about her, goodness sake, there's strange folk everywhere
As long as I'm with Skeezix, anybody can feel free to make fun of us
Well, gotta go, the bell is about to ring.  Geometry waits for none of us...
