 But They Do
These people squirm past me
Trying not to see me
But they do

A new soul in these endless hallways
How could anyone notice?
But they do

I try to smile
Not let them silence me
But they do

The bells ring
My body doesn't move automatically
But they do

I hesitate at each turn
I don't even know where I'm going
But they do

I sit here in puzzlement
Of course no one would judge me!
But they do

The day ends
I don't know where my bus leads to
But they do

I walk into my new home
I almost don't feel welcome
But they do

I call the one person who makes me
Feel at home
I don't expect them to answer
But they do

And the moment I hear his sweet voice
Hear the words he says
'They' no longer have and hold on 'me'
'They' are just people I pass along in my life
'They' have no future
But I DO
