 Adopted Twice - My Dad

After my dad was born
Being placed for adoption
All future ties were torn
By his mom's free option

A couple without other children
Raised him up living on a farm
With many life lessons to learn
He was loved and kept from harm

Going to a one-room country school
Learning was hard to say the least
But a teacher took extra interest too
She encouraged him to do his best

Needed on the farm, he quit in fifth grade
My mom later wrote her and kept in touch
I remember visiting her on a trip we made
A special joy and honor that meant so much

He was also adopted into God's family
I do not recall his full redemption story
But I know he is now with Jesus eternally
His life on earth was a living testimony

All who come to the foot of the cross
Putting all their faith in Jesus alone
Realizing only He can save the lost
Sins are forgiven by His blood atoned

Joseph and Mary were like adoptive parents
Chosen by God to raise Jesus, His only Son
Their status was temporary, for it is apparent
Jesus was man and God, the divine Holy One

Jesus knew that Mary's work was done
When he gave John charge to her care
Yes, Mary was God's divine chosen one
At the cross, her role was completed there

In our society, so many fathers are absent
Children grow up in a single parent home
Whether your father is gone or still present
Your Heavenly Father never leaves you alone

Here are some suggestions for Father's Day
Support other fathers within your own family
By showing your appreciation in a special way
Honor a Godly man impacting you for eternity

John 1:12-13 (NIV)
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name,
he gave the right to become children of God — 13 children born
not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will,
but born of God.

Ephesians 1:5 (Amplified Version)
For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be
adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in
accordance with the purpose of His will [because it pleased Him
and was His kind intent]

Dedicated in loving memory of my dad,
after entering his heavenly home,
now 12 years ago as of May 15, 1998.
