Poetry For Everyday People

Me, Gypsy And Vino

My girl is tending
to grand ma duties
in North Carolina
"we're still young
 and hot though",

I'm holding down
the fort in Florida
with our dog Gypsy,

I lived alone
until I was 34
and preferred it,
yet now, almost eleven
years together, only
been apart twice,
once for four nights
(first grand ma duties,
we're still young and hot though),
once for two nights for work,

this time
it's going on two weeks,
maybe more?
second grand child, which
is beautiful and I wish
I was there,

but the air doesn't taste right?

I took Gypsy out
five times to the lake today,
I'm sittin' on the couch
with her, drinking a glass
of wine, red cab French,

waiting on a couple of calls
for work, if they come?

knowing the air will never
taste right without my girl,

and I don't want it to.
