The Childhood Bully

My child went to school today
to face more cruelty and pain,
he was brought down by bullies
causing him emotional strain.

He can only take so much
when he chooses to ignore,
until it finally gets him
and his tears fall to the floor.

My child tries to guard feelings
by walking the other way,
a chance to avoid the bullies
and have a better school day.

It is the sticks and stones
that will not harm the strong,
mean words that hit hard
are both painful and wrong.

At home where it is safe
from a bully's mean touch,
dwelling on past memories
of bad behaviors and such.

Fallen tears have calmed
and school sees him no more,
nothing was ever settled
by opening mind and door.

I stand to guard his feelings
as I would protect my own,
I will not send my child to school
to be hit by the bully's stone.

He may need his education
and I know the law is there,
when a child is being harmed
a school should show some care.
