The Dare Me Pill

A commercial caught my eye
and at first it was a blur,
they gave enough warnings
of the risks that can occur.

It said ask your doctor
if the pill is right for you,
even though the side effects
can be dangerous for a few.

Diabetes, coma or death
as a result of that risky pill,
it may happen to the elderly
but I question its safety still.

I recognized the medication
after all that had been said,
suddenly I felt the fear inside
as the risks went to my head.

I'm on that same medication
that they advertised on TV,
my thoughts were going wild
about what could happen to me.

Advertisements are for selling
a product safe for everyone,
when I saw that on my TV
I told myself that I am done.

I'm told that I have to take it
though some days I skip a dose,
I didn't want to hear it anymore
and think about being comatose.

How can they sell this medication
when the risks are always there?
I'm inside myself with feelings
and each swallow becomes a dare.
