As a Child in the Sun

There's laughter in the sunshine
that makes us feel so good,
we play out in the hot sun
just as a child would.

We run and we jump
and we shout with glee,
it is a wonderful moment
where we feel so free.

Then we hear someone call
out to us from the house,
It is time to go inside
and explain it to our spouse.

We have to make him dinner
and leave our fun outside,
we kick at the ground
and wish that we could hide.

We put our heads down
and walk as slow as we can,
we walk with a pouty face
to meet the hungry man.

It's no fun being the adult
out in the summer sun,
but we must face our duties
when the day is almost done.
