A few years ago while visiting in Pennsylvania
We took a side trip to Valley Forge
The summer flowers were in bloom
The country grasses were waving in the breeze
We stopped and just listened to the sound of the country
Birds sang - crickets chirped - and a lone bull frog croaked
In my mind
I heard the echoes of the encampment of the Continental Army of the
newly formed United States of America
I saw
George Washington kneeling in deep snow to pray
Asking God's direction for himself and his men that were without shoes
or warm clothing and not much food to put in their empty stomachs
Men who had left their homes and love ones
to fight to make this country free
Free to speak and say anything without fear of reprisal
Free to worship in the way they choose
Free to bare arms and defend themselves
Free to met and assemble and discuss anything they choose
Free to have equal justice for the rich and the poor
These are just a few reasons they fought
These men gave their all so this fledgling country could be free
Some gave all of their wealth to support the new government
Each giving as God directed them to give
2,500 of these brave soldiers died during that harsh winter at Valley Forge
What would these brave men and women think of us today
We can't use the name of Jesus in our prayers in public
We can't have the Ten Commandments posted in government buildings
Children can not take a Bible to a public school
We can't speak and voice our opinion because we
might be considered political incorrect
There are so many we can't and very few cans
Many of the freedoms that those brave men fought for
are now taken away from us - we seem so willing to just hand over
what these valiant men fought for
We don't know what hardships they endured so we can be free
We have so much here in this country
that we take for granted
When was the last time we bowed
our knees in pray to God for His leadership for this country
What would George Washington think of us now
What would the others that have given their life since then
think of us
WHAT DOES GOD THINK OF US
If My people, which are called by My name,
shall humble themselves, and pray,
and seek My face,
and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land.
