Poetic Verses
Is this Fair?
Do you think that we are all part of a supportive union?
That by our purchases endorse those multinational corporations
Whose brands we enjoy , but the use of cheap labor is that object
Behind which they can on their books show a phenomenal profit
Those workers work in places of such deplorable conditions
Some which break all the rules of the recommended safety specifications
And more often workers are driven by need and yes some terror
Only to be paid very far below the minimum rate an hour.
Some of the building look as those they are quite collapsible
Yet the worked produce such a quality product of a standard that is unquestionable
Yet confined to such cramped quarters in these sweat shops
Working to make deadlines and most times around the clock.
Those guys who keep contact with those workers
Behave in a manner similar to that of slave drivers
Despite this I do applaud and understand the steel in these women
As they endure such indignity mainly for the welfare of their children.
But then what about those people's governments?
Do they not know of their treatment or only its impact on the statistics of employment?
Or perhaps those agent who were to police it , became invisible
Because they too got greedy and acquire habits that are venal.
Yes many may be from the lower economic background
Yet perhaps some may have been blessed with an education
But when situations are presented where employment chances are limited
One has to make do with what is there and be contented.
But do it has to be like what happened in Bhopal?
To make those guys be accountable and responsible
Because lots of the things which they are doing in those distant lands
Would not be tolerated or condoned on those belonging to Uncle Sam.
What seems so hurtful and perhaps spiteful and can bring out tears
Is to see how companies lavish those products on many of those sports stars
Sponsoring them with contract for millions over years
Whilst those who made them got pittance, mixed with sweat and tears.
