 Squeaking Porch Swing
A cool summer's evening on our front porch;
Sitting silently as the sun slips slowly away.
Three wicker rocking chairs sit empty tonight;
Sharing the moment in the squeaking porch swing.
Lightning softly flickers from miles away;
Crickets sing their mating song with gusto.
An occasional car passes on the quiet road;
Relaxing together in the squeaking porch swing.
Not much needs to be said after all these years;
We each understand this comfortable stillness.
Not having to make small talk, no need to entertain;
We just sway in the squeaking porch swing.
A peaceful easy feeling on a summer's night;
Sitting together, smiling from the inside out.
Experiencing a precious gift of married life;
Together with you in the squeaking porch swing.
