IN YOUR EYES
In your eyes I see
desire left to languish
without being answered;
hope long lost in the
maze of love's labyrinth.
In your eyes I see
life's burdens bearing
down with the weight
of a thousand forgotten
dreams and promises
In your eyes I see
compassion given
without reservation to
the world, but the pain
from another's apathy
In your eyes I see
a wounded warrior
for God whose spirit
sings a silent dirge of
self denial and despair
In your eyes I see
fear of failure's face;
the yearning to be the
best becomes the barrier
that holds you back
Oh, but in your eyes I see
a depth of love so strong
that nothing can defeat
its dominion or weaken
the force of its feeling
In your eyes I see
a hunger to have all
that you have imagined
and held in your heart
unrequited for so long
In your eyes I see
an eagerness to live;
to grow in ways beyond
your wildest understanding
and become a man made new.
In your eyes I see
who you really are
beneath the pain,
beneath the defeat…
the man you're meant to be…
