 One of 'The Few'

He was one of the airmen
That Churchill called
'The Few'
Although to me
He was just a neighbour
Who lived across the road
A modest man
Who with his wife
Lived a simple quiet life
He never mentioned
That when he was young
In the summer of 1940
As the days grew long
He flew and fought
To save this land

If it hadn't been
For him
And the rest of 'The Few'
Then all would have been lost
So please thank God
For what they did
They saved us from tyranny
So that we can live
In this green and pleasant land
In freedom

"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few"
                    Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
                           20th August 1940
