Evergreen

As my branches bow from harsh element
by sheer fortitude to grow straight and strong
Like fragile esteem becomes ever bent
in journey taken that grows this life long
To wither in heat yet bask in sunlight,
and to drink in the rain of angel tears
A measure of circumstance, not of might,
is the fulfillment of progressing years
I sway with the wind tho' it can be fierce
and hold tight with my roots to withstand ground
Tho' my bark is tough I still feel the pierce
of loss etched deeply and forever bound
Old as time allows, burst with new stems seen
My life sways in time like the Evergreen
