Longing

You hold on to what makes you- you
Through the haze you remain beautiful.
I fear for you in the world's fire,
Fear that you may fall from grace-
Too many minds wanting to own you,
Too many hands wanting to touch you.
It is strange for me to say this now
When all seems to have become confused,
When the light of all that is good
Has given way to the soft glow of candlelight,
When a heart that wants to feel deeply
Gets lost in the noisy world outside.
Who can understand what each one of us thinks
When we sit alone in our rooms at night;
Does something call to us in darkness,
Do we go to places unknown to us?
 But in the soft light of another sunrise,
There is a longing that is never quelled.
