Waiting and listening
Waiting and listening
to whispers - so soft
and babble from babies
and all sorts of coughs.
Waiting and listening
to telephone rings
and tapping from fingers
and newspaper flings.
Waiting and listening
to magazine flicks
and doors closing gently
and bills settled - quick.
Waiting and listening
to words - strange and odd
and coffee cups clinking
and footsteps - well trod.
Waiting and listening
to music's soft sound
and stretching and shuffling
from those all around.
Waiting and listening
to sorting out bills
and paper unfolding
and surgery drills.
Waiting and listening
to printouts - low hum
and questions and answers
from patients that come.
