Empathy
I sit and quietly listen to you;
My ears tune into not only your words,
But also to your emotions, to your soul.
Absorbing the feelings that you release;
Opening my heart and pouring out love
To you as you tell me what is wrong.
You are lifted through my listening;
A well place word here, another there.
The gift of empathy brings about healing.
Unable to manipulate this, it simply flows;
Reducing the mountain of hurt and pain
To something a little more manageable.
We sit now in silence as you continue to
Download through your eyes to me.
The gift of empathy brings about change.
We walk away slowly from our meeting,
Forever changed, bound as friends.
The two melts into one, no longer alone.
Troubles rolling off like water on a duck's back,
Into the cosmos goes pain, replaced by peace.
The gift of empathy brings about release.
